Environment Committee

Yarrells is proud to fly the ‘Green Flag’ for the work we do to protect and conserve the environment. Our enthusiastic Environment Committee are inspired to lead the school in all green projects. They are involved with leading assemblies and introducing initiatives, such as the CUT YOUR CARBON campaign. They worked with Oly Rush to plan and deliver our World Ocean Day, raising money through the swimathon for Project Planet as well as the ‘Woodpecker’ shed.  'Virtual litter picks’ have taken place to support the work of the Marine Conservation Society. So many families have got involved with the Great British Beach Clean, alongside our community. The ‘Rags to Riches’ textile collection was also supported, and the committee lead assemblies about recycling and waste. The Environment committee also organise the collections of old batteries and used pens and they ensure we recycle our yoghurt pots. Any compost collected is used to feed the worms in our wormery.

This year the committee also have plans to organise a photography competition and run a ‘Wear it Wild’ day in the summer term. They are also involved with leading the school on the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. They come to regular meetings full of ideas and enthusiasm and really do make a difference at Yarrells.
